When it comes to selling online, no matter what niche or area you are into, you ALWAYS want to be selling or cashing in on hot products or trends, but you also want to make sure you are doing it without putting yourself at risk. So today we look at How To Find Hot Products To DropShip!
For this article, I use the word 'Hot Product' to mean anything that is currently being advertised on Facebook or Instagram a lot, or search/keyword trends have risen significantly in a short space of time on Amazon or eBay. I will also look at how these methods can be used to find the most profitable DropShipping products (though you will find that this doesn't always work out)
You have probably sat scrolling through Facebook and noticed that an advert has gone viral, such as the infamous Fidget spinners, that seemed to appear overnight, and then nearly dropped off the face of the earth as quick!
Wouldn't it have been amazing if you had managed to get on board that, BEFORE it became that next in thing, and you rode the train up, rather than down? Yes, is the simple answer.
How do I surf the wave?
There are a number of ways to get in on the action, and it all boils down to how much effort or time you are willing to put into it.
If you have read some of my reviews or other you have read the Salehoo or DropShip Spy reviews, then you can probably guess where this might be going and you will realise I am a fan of letting other people do this for me.
Doing the research yourself... Boring
I have a lot of respect for people who do this method, because I tried it a few times, and even though I have successfully found Hot Products that have gone on to make money or been picked up by other stores, it has taken a lot of time and even more effort than I would want to do!
Facebook Ads / Post Scrolling
One of the main ways people try to find those Top Selling items is to use the platform that they would eventually advertise on, by searching for keywords such as 'Buy now' or 'HOT PRODUCT' and even '50% Off now!'. These phrases and keywords are used a lot by DropShippers or eCommerce stores in their adverts to grab peoples attention.
eBay Research
eBay is one of the biggest platforms for selling, and can provide you with lots of information about what is currently selling like hotcakes or isn't doing very well.
If you have the time, you can click through eBay's different categories, or use eBays own 'Pick of the day' section. Either way will show you a number of items that eBay feels is selling well around the world (or if you want you can search for eBays respective country such as .de or .co.uk).
Once you have found a number of listings, eBay will even be so kind as to tell you how many people are watching and how many sold in the last 24hours! An item that has sold 400+ items in 24hours is probably going to be a winner.
Amazon Research
The holy grail of selling online, especially if you are into wholesale selling.
Amazon is so nice, they even show you bestsellers, broken down by category and sometimes even subcategories. That's kind of them isn't it.
The downside, is that Amazon does not show you trends or how many products have sold in the last 24hours, but you can use Amazon's own ranking tool to give you a rough idea of how many items these products are selling per day.
You have to use a lot of guess work, and hope that the items that are appearing at the top of these categories and spaces are 'viral' or hot products.
Alibaba or AliExpress research
The main place a lot of DropShippers or sellers will look, is on the place that most shop owners get their merchandise from, AliExpress for DropShippers or Alibaba for wholesalers.
Both platforms give you a number of statistics, including how many are currently being dealt with by the supplier, last time it was ordered and the total number that the supplier has fuffiled.
AliExpress goes one step further, and will show you what they call trending items, or items that a supplier is currently selling hundreds of within a really short space of time.
You can drill down by category, sub category or even using keywords such as 'Dog Leash'.
Now where to get your new found Item?
Once you have found a potentially Hot Selling Product or one of those profitable DropShipping products, you will want to go back to the place that most entrepreneurs will source their items from, AliExpress.
From here you can then search on there with your chosen keyword, you will then be shown a few hundred, or a few thousand suppliers who all sell variations of the item you are looking for.
You will then need to choose which supplier you want to go with, ensuring that you find ones with good prices, high number of reviews and even reasonable shipping times.
That's a lot of work...
It can take ages doing the above, and you have zero guarantee that you will ever find a product that is actually selling really well, or that the supplier is legitimate and wont try to scam you as soon as they can!
Letting others do the work for you
The alternative way of finding Hot Products, is to let others do it for you. Depending on the platform you want to sell on, or the method you are going to be selling by, there are a number of different ways of doing this.
Note, that none of these services or products actually guarantee that you will be able to find most profitable dropshipping products, but you will be able to find products that could be great for your business!
AMZScout
If you are going to be someone who is interested in Amazon Selling, or even Amazon FBA, then you really should investigate AMZScout. This plugin/web based app actually takes a lot of the guess work that comes from trying to work out if you are about to be selling the next Pokemon card or some Digimon flops.
The web based app allows you to find the monthly searches for chosen keywords, as well as providing you an insight into possible trends.
The chrome extension is the secret hidden tool that allows me to interpret the data that Amazon has, such as the best seller rank and then provides you with a ton of extra information such as Monthly Sales, in stock levels, rough profit and shows you in an easy to view table.
You would still have to find your potentially supplier after you have found products that work for you, but this takes so much of the guess work out!
Salehoo
I would recommend reading the full review of Salehoo to fully understand what tools and information you can get from here.
Salehoo is actually an online wholesale database, but they also provide you with a number of nifty tools, such as 'The Lab'.
'The Lab' is a series of tools that allow you to start researching different niches and products, without having to trawl through lots of different areas.
They provide you with the average selling price, how well they sell and also the competition for that particular product.
They then provide you with a number of trusted suppliers who you can purchase from.
The second tool is 'Product Trends', which does exactly what is says on the tin, it provides you with a number of categories that are currently hot right now. From the 5,000 products they add each week, they look to see which ones are on the up and up. They then provide pricing, average sell rate and again suppliers to purchase from.
These kind of wholesale list providers can be a life safer.
A lot easier than running an excel spreadsheet.
DropShip Spy
Becoming a firm favourite in my armoury these days, this really is a secret weapon, because hardly anyone knows about it. Why? Because the less people who know the better the products.
As with Salehoo, if you have read the review on DropShip Spy, then you know why I rave about them so much.
Unlike Salehoo, DropShip Spy is a lot more like AMZScout, but more aimed at DropShippers (hence the name).
Using this platform, you have two different ways of finding that brand new, hot off the press product.
You can use their 'Promising Products' tool which shows you a number of products that have been requested by the sites members. That means someone else has noticed the product looks to be on the rise, and they want more information. Crowdsourcing at its finest.
The second way, is to use the Winning Products / Daily Hot Products. These are items that are currently selling like mad on Facebook. They include all the information you need to go make a sale, such as suppliers, advert text, videos and even descriptions! You couldn't ask for more.
There you have it 3 secret tools to get your winning product!
If you know the right places to look, you really can do the trawling yourself (or get someone on Fiverr or PeoplePerHour to do it for you). But it can take hours, with no guarantee that you will find that hot product you where after.
For a few $ a month (Salehoo works out at $5.3 a month and DropShip Spy is currently $20) you can get all the data you need to make informed decisions. The best part about it, is that if you find that winning item, then the services pay for themselves and they give you access to a number of extra tools on top of that!
And for those who are serious about the wholesale side of things, getting that high profit, steady sale item is crucial, as it ensures that you are selling day in, day out making the profit and money you need to live the 'Good-bye to 9-5' lifestyle. You always want to find items that are not going to be gone within a few weeks, unless you can find manufacturers or suppliers with current stock, who are trusted and can get it too you quick. So always keep that in mind!
I started this blog around 2017, after realising that I wanted to let people know about all the different ways someone could make money online. From DropShipping, Affiliate Marketing, Network Marketing and more.
This blog has now grown to review and explain a variety of different tools and platforms, in the bid to help you.
This blog contains affiliate links, and I will get a commission for purchases made through these links. It doesn’t change anything for you and will on occasion save you money! Enjoy, James.
